Having a working website has helped my business to grow, to connect with people and interact more with them. That is one of the reasons Cornerstone Executive and life Coaching Ltd runs the ecommerce course "Building A Successful Business Using The Internet" in Zambia. Being in Africa, I have seen the vast potential that the internet has for Africans. In Africa, many people do not use their computers and the internet for anything more than typing documents and sending and receiving emails. The internet is therefore, for the most part, very underutilised. I speak of Africa here, but I know that even in other places there are people that underutilise the internet. One of the reasons for this underutilisation is a lack of knowledge on what the internet has to offer for the individual or business as far as e-commerce and making money online are concerned. I love the internet business model because as far as I have seen there is no better business model that offers people from any background the ability to change their lives and their fortunes so easily and profoundly. Online Business ModelsHere is a short primer on the various internet business opportunities available:Affiliate programmes Google Adsense WAHM (Work At Home Moms) Local Service businesses E-goods creators and sellers Hard goods creators and sellers This list is not exhaustive by any means, but contains the most common internet business opportunities available. The way online business worksAll you have to do is understand how things work online in order to succeed. That is perhaps where many go wrong right at the beginning. They want to do business online, but have an office business mentality. Offline a large part of any business is about... Location, location, location. But online, this paradigm does not work. Online there is only one thing that works and that is content. Remember this simple phrase and you will succeed online if you apply it: Content is king. The basic business model online is CTPM. That’s Content, Traffic, Presell and Monetise, in that order. So you see, everything online starts with content. Not fancy web site designs. Not banners and sophisticated opening graphics. Online, people are looking for information in the form of web content and that is what you have to give them first and foremost. That content is what then drives traffic to your website. It is the experience of many businesses and individuals, not only in Africa but world over, to have fancy websites that just sit there and are never visited by anyone. That is a very frustrating situation because often a lot of time and money goes into making these websites, only to have them just sit there and contribute nothing to the business due to lack of online traffic. This need not be so. The pitfalls can be avoided. All it takes is a basic understanding of how the internet works and how to take advantage of it. Those that have find that the internet gives them much more than what they could have hoped for. It delivers, if the rules are followed. It is my passion to teach people, particularly those in Africa, about the vast potential the internet has for them in terms of internet business opportunities. I can see the internet being one way for Africa to advance and have better trade opportunities. There is so much talent, expertise, services and goods that we can market online without the traditional trade barriers that hamper us offline. When searching for a suitable internet business opportunity you must also be aware of internet business scams and how to avoid them.
